STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES OF INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN
ADDIE Model .
STRENGTHS
Provide a structured guidance for designing. Can be easily altered to fit any learning module.Evaluation is a key component built into ADDIE.WEAKNESSES
Does it provide solutions in a timely or efficient manner. Is a linear approach.Waterfall Model also referred to as a linear-sequential life cycle model. It is very simple to understand and use. Each phase must be completed fully before the next phase can begin. The advantages of waterfall model are this model is simple and easy to understand and use, it is easy to manage due to the rigidit of the model which is each phase has specific deliverables and a riview process. In this model phases are processed and completed one at a time. Phases do not overlap. Waterfall model works well for smaller projects where requirements are clearly defined and very well understood. But the weakness of waterfall model are once an application is in the testing stage, it is very difficult to go back and change something that was not well-thought out in the concept stage. Second, no working software is produced until late during the life cycle. Third, the weakness of waterfall model is high amounts of risk and uncertainty. It also not a good model for complex and object-oriented projects. The last one is waterfall model is a poor model for long and ongoing projects also not suitable for the projects where requirements are at a moderate to high risk of changing.
Rapid Prototyping Model.
STRENGH
The Prototype gives the user a fair idea about the final look of the product. It is easier to find the design flaws in the early developmental stages.User can get a higherEnables development time and costs.Easily delivered high quality productThe deficiencies in the earlier prototypes can be detected and rectified in time.WEAKNESSES
Not suitable for large sized applications.Fails in replication of the real product or system.Too much involvement of the user might hamper the optimization of the program. The system could be left unfinished due to various reasons or the system may be implemented before it is completely ready.
ASSURE Model
STRENGTHS
linear, step-by-step process is user friendly.Media use supports content of lesson.
WEAKNESSES
too rigid for some designers.leaves out step for support services
Dick & Carey Model
STRENGTHS
This model gives a lot of planning of the objectives, so the learner can complete it successfully. The model works as a whole. The educator needs to do all the stages in order for the objective goal to work. This model can be used with either large or small audience and can be taught to any person.WEAKNESSES
This model gives a lot of emphasis on the objective or instruction on how to reach the goal and planning the objective to reach that goal.you need time to complete each stage and have good coordination in order to be successful.
Hannafin & Peck Model
STRENGTHS
Ideal for all experience levelsImproves the quality and consistency of eLearning experiences.Allows you to evaluate your eLearning course as you go along.
Systematic Instructional Design
STRENGTHS
Cost effectiveSave time and troublePromotes effective learningSystematicWEAKNESSES
Very linearConstraining, limits creativity
Agile Model
STRENGTHS
High flexibility of the project.High customer satisfaction over the development processConstant interaction among the stakeholders.Contunuous quality assurance, attention to details.WEAKNESSES
Problem with workflow coordination.Difficult planning at early stages.Professional teams are vital.Lack of long-term planning.
Eclectic Approach
STRENGTHS
Does not restrict to one perspective so allows new ideas to be formed.Combining methods is a useful way of validating ideas.Provides a fuller, more detailed understanding of human behaviour.WEAKNESSES
It’s difficult to identify the relative contributions of each approach. It does not lend itself to prediction and control of behaviour. There are practical difficulties in investigating the integration of the approaches.
SAM Model
STRENGTHS
The design team meets (including stakeholders) to brainstorm the initial prototypes, constantly analyzing for weaknesses.WEAKNESS
possibility of getting stuck in the cycle of revision and having trouble finalizing the product
SAMR Model
STRENGTHS
easy to follow steps that provide great examples of how to scaffold the integration of technology into teaching and learning. WEAKNESSESthis model is getting caught up in the the simple act of adding in technology, which will not necessarily enhance the course or lesson if the instructor has not done their due diligence in their planning or testing of the technology this model is getting caught up in the the simple act of adding in technology, which will not necessarily enhance the course or lesson if the instructor has not done their due diligence in their planning or testing of the technology.
